Wolf Maps Version 4

Wolf Maps Version 4
Written by Tim Sluis on 22 November 2023

We are proud to announce that Wolf Maps 4.0 is live. We have quietly shipped previous versions, but this one is worth a moment of attention.

Before we dive in: when do you move from 3.4.1 to 4.0? Usually only when something meaningful changes. Something that makes most users happy (and maybe a few less so).

So here it is: one major update, plus a few smaller ones.

Improved location view

Previously, clicking a pin opened a popup. Nice enough, but limited. More content meant a higher chance the popup would not fit on screen.

After months of experimentation, design, and development, locations now open in a side panel. This gives much more room for video, photos, audio, and more.

Extra benefit: the map stays usable while a location is open. A solid improvement and a foundation for more possibilities. We are proud ✨.

Better visibility of selected location

The title sounds technical, but the idea is simple: when you click a location, can you still clearly see which one is selected? That was not always easy. This update makes the active location stand out clearly.

GPX download for routes

Routes and Wolf Maps are a great match. Sometimes visitors want more, like a GPX file to use in their own app or tracker. We can now enable this and generate GPX downloads per route on request.

Captions for photos

A small but valuable addition: you can now add a caption to photos. Useful for photographer credits or adding context for visitors.
