Hot off the press: map analytics

Written by Tim Sluis on 25 February 2025

We have something new! You can now track the usage of your map yourself. Discover how often your map is viewed, how long visitors stay, and which locations are popular. You can now monitor this directly in Wolf Maps Studio.

Over the past few years, we have been tracking these analytics in the background. If you’ve been a customer for a while, you can now look back at all those years in the Studio.

Privacy-friendly

First things first: Wolf Maps tracks map usage in a privacy-friendly way. We don’t use cookies and don’t track IP addresses. The collected data is stored on our own servers in the EU. That’s why you won’t see a cookie banner on Wolf Maps 🎉.

About visitors and their origins

Here’s a selection of key metrics you can explore:

  • View visit duration, engagement rate (the percentage of visitors who perform at least one action), and the live visitor count.
  • See where visitors come from and through which sources, such as other websites.
  • Discover which locations and routes are most visited.
  • Analyze this data over a period of your choice.

A map is, of course, slightly different from a website. In addition to these standard insights, we also offer some map-specific functionality.

Wolf Maps Analytics

About QR codes

Do you use Wolf Maps QR codes in booklets, brochures, or stickers? See how often they are scanned. Measure the impact of your campaigns and adjust accordingly.

You can also see how long visitors from QR codes stay. They often remain longer than visitors from other sources.

About the location of your visitors

Visitors use maps both beforehand to explore their destination and on-site for orientation. When a visitor shares their location, we register this anonymously.

In Wolf Maps analytics, you can see how many visitors use this feature and also where visitors have actually been within the area. This is incredibly useful for identifying popular locations. You can, for example, respond to crowding by highlighting lesser-visited spots.

About embeds

A map is often displayed within another website using an iFrame. The interaction with an embed depends on its size and placement on a page. That’s why we measure embeds in two ways:

  1. An embed view: each time an embed is displayed, this value increases.
  2. An embed interaction: when a visitor actually interacts with the embed, we count this as a visit to the map. Only from that moment do we include the visit in the average visit duration of the map.

This gives you a complete picture of your map’s and embed’s performance.

With these analytics, you can improve your map and expand your reach. We’re proud! Check out your analytics now at wolfmaps.com/studio.
