At Wolf Maps, we are committed to making our interactive maps accessible to everyone, including people with visual impairments. Accessibility is a priority for us because we believe everyone should be able to discover the world around them.

Visual accessibility

People with reduced vision can face different obstacles when using maps. At Wolf Maps, we have taken steps to reduce these barriers:

  • Higher contrast: our tool is designed with higher contrast by default, making maps clearer and easier to interpret.
  • Screen reader support: many people with reduced vision use screen readers that read on-screen text and elements out loud. Wolf Maps is compatible with screen readers.
  • Responsive design: Wolf Maps is optimized for different screen sizes and devices, so maps work well on mobile phones and tablets too.

How does Wolf Maps work with screen readers?

Wolf Maps includes a dedicated feature to improve map accessibility for screen reader users. Here is how it works:

  1. Activate accessible mode: open a Wolf Maps map and press the M key on your keyboard.
  2. Keyboard navigation: a square appears on the map. Move it with the arrow keys.
  3. Listen to locations: while moving the square, your screen reader announces locations inside the square. These locations are also shown on screen.
  4. Select a location: use number keys to open the desired place.
